Laura Rezzonico is a PhD candidate at the University of Neuchâtel and a fellow of the NCCR-on the move “The Migration-Mobility Nexus”. She works on a research project titled “Restricting Immigration: Practices, Experiences and Resistance”, which is directed by Prof. Christin Achermann. In this context, Laura explores issues relating to immigration detention in Switzerland asking how different actors understand and experience it. Her research is based on ethnographic fieldwork in detention centres. Laura obtained a Master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Neuchâtel in 2012. For her final dissertation, she conducted a case study focusing on educational programmes for returning refugees in Mauritania. The study formed part of a wider UNHCR research project on refugee education. In the last years, Laura gained professional experience working with non-governmental organisations providing support to asylum seekers in Switzerland.
